Get your skates on

The fun and vibrant atmosphere of a Canadian pub is only minutes away in Cockburn
at Cabin 401 Bar & Grill, WA’s only rink-side restaurant.

This unique venue, located inside Cockburn Ice Arena, is the only place in Perth where you can experience an adrenaline-fuelled ice hockey match and a lively log cabin bar.

“A lot of people don’t know ice hockey exists in WA,” Operations manager Bron Lukowiak tells Herald Dining.

“One of Cabin 401’s major draw cards is being able to watch various ice hockey leagues played in this world class arena.”

The arena is the official home of Cockburn Hawks, but also hosts other league teams, including Perth Thunder and a recent exhibition match in support of Soldier On, played between the Australian Defence Force and the Emergency Services.

The fund-raising game was so successful, it’s now set to become an annual event.

“We get big crowds at these games and where better to view all of this excitement than from the comfort of this amazing bar and grill,” says Bron.

Cabin 401 has a wide range of no-fuss pub grub, hearty meals, desserts and the finest craft beers, including WA brews from Gage Roads.

A customer favourite is Cabin’s mouthwatering chicken wings, named after various American National Hockey League (NHL) teams.

“The wings are very popular here,” says Bron.

“A lot of people will come and play hockey, or have a skate, then come in to the bar area especially for these wings.”

The Buffalo Sabre Wings, served with a flavoursome blue cheese dipping sauce, are guaranteed to have you gnawing every last bit of meat left on the bone.

If wings are your thing, then you’ll be happy to know you can get them for $1 each on Fridays. Bargain.

The poutine—a generous portion of golden, deep fried chips swimming in gravy—are devoured by the bucket load, especially by bigger group tables.

The smoky version is topped with a heap of cheddar, bacon and smoked kransky, while the pulled pork poutine includes tender, succulent pork.

The buttermilk chicken burger is another great offering.

The crunchy, southern-style chicken breast is served in a charcoal brioche bun with lettuce, cheddar cheese and a tangy chipotle aioli, which packs some heat.

The menu at Cabin 401 has other pub favourites, like chicken parma, nachos, hotdogs, calamari, steaks, seafood and a hefty chef’s mixed platter, which includes chicken wings, bratwurst, grilled New York sirloin, ribs, fresh pickles, slaw and chips. What a feast!

If you’re looking for a venue to host your birthday party, corporate event or special occasion, Cabin 401 caters for many different functions.

“We’re an obvious choice for various sporting clubs, but we’ve also held functions for kids birthday parties, which is a real treat for both the children and the parents,” says Bron.

Now that the warm summer months are here, Cabin 401 and Cockburn Ice Arena is a great spot to chill out with a meal and a cold drink, shared with friends and family.
